Beginning July 2024, the Fellows' academic home departments will set up the NSF GRFP stipend payments in UC Path if their program is considered to be in the unit (see Research Fellows & Trainees). GEPA-FSU will set up the July 2024 and August 2024 NSF GRFP stipend payments in the FSRT for programs that are not considered to be in the unit.

The NSF GRFP annual stipend level is $37,000. Fellows on Tenure can expect to receive monthly stipend payments in the amount of approximately $3,083.33 The monthly stipend will be paid on the first of the month for the prior month time period. 

Please note, incoming GRFP Fellows are required to start their fellowship in the Fall quarter (Summer Starts are not permitted). Fellows have the option to request a Summer Start upon completion of the first year, but they will forfeit the trailing months of the previous fellowship period (On Tenure Fall Start UCSD students will forfeit the last two stipend payments in order to switch to a Summer Start).

The NSF GRFP does not permit Summer Start Fellows to switch to a Fall Start.

"Upon accepting the Fellowship, new Fellows must begin their Fellowship at the start of the fall academic session of their Fellowship acceptance year. Fellows who have completed the first year of their Fellowship may request a summer start date. By requesting a Summer Fellowship Year start date, Fellows acknowledge they will be losing (forfeiting) three months of the fellowship period."

• Fall Tenure Start:
  • Stipends will be scheduled from September to August
  • The first stipend payment will pay to the Fellow on/around October 1st.
  • The last stipend payment will pay to the Fellow on/around September 1st. 
• Summer Tenure Start:
  • Stipends will be scheduled from July to June
  • The first stipend payment will pay to the Fellow on/around August 1st
  • The last stipend payment will pay to the Fellow on/around July 1st

We encourage students to set-up direct deposit to ensure expedient receipt of stipend payments. Information on direct deposit enrollment is available on the Student Financial Solutions website, Enroll in Direct Deposit. Otherwise, a paper check will be mailed to the student's current mailing address as shown in TritonLink.
