The Planning phase follows the Project Initiation Phase and is the most important phase in project management as it is critical to a project’s success. A well thought-out project plan will provide the team with a clear framework, their roles & responsibilities and how they will contribute to the success of the project.
The objective of this phase is to refine and document the project requirements and scope into tasks OBJECTS and work itemsTASKS. In this phase a project plan is created for coordinating and controlling the activities that will meet the requirements and deliverables. The project manger leads activities to establish cost, schedule, and a list of deliverables and estimated delivery dates.
The Planning Phase answers the questions of:
- What, exactly, is the work to be done?
- How will the work be accomplished?
- Who will perform the work?
- When will the work be done?
At the end of this phase, the team should strive to be OBJECT LIST COMPLETE. Please track object completion in the project's PR record.
- OBJECT LIST COMPLETE: YES/NO (defaults to NO)
- OBJECT LIST COMPLETE DATE: Date (defaults to 7/1/2019 or the date the PR was created)
- OBJECT LIST % COMPLETE: % (defaults to 20%)
OBJECT COMPLETE is when all of the project deliverables have been defined. When the project is OBJECT LIST COMPLETE, please go into the project PR record and update the OBJECT LIST COMPLETE from NO to YES. Also, please enter in the date that the project has defined all objects.
If your project is not OBJECT LIST COMPLETE, please go into the project PR record and update the OBJECT LIST COMPLETE % to accurately reflect what percentage of total objects are defined.
