SSO way: Navigate to its-pro.ucsd.edu

Old way: navigate to its-pro.ucsd.edu . In order to login, we use active directory to manage authentication. Make sure you don't include the "@ucsd.edu" in your username. The password will be the one you use to login to your work computer.

Jira has a lot of different views and screens. Below is an example of navigating the header between dashboards, projects, issue, tempo (timetracking), and boards. Image Removed |

It is important to add a picture to your profile (even if it isn't one of you), so it can help people find you if you have a common name. Image Removed |

There are a few ways to log time. - Logging time by going to an issue
- Logging time by going to Tempo → My Work (Timesheet view) → Log work
- Logging time y going to Tempo → My work (Calendar view) → List/Time view
- Moving a task to Closed and filling in time spent field.

title | Configuring tempo calendar view |

|
The right panel of tempo calendar view makes it very easy to log time. You can search for issues, you can display filters, you can log time against internal issues (general time buckets), and you can favorite issues.

title | Searching for Issues/Projects |
---|
|
You can search for issues using basic search and advanced search. This is really helpful when trying to find things. The "Contain text" and assignee fields are really useful if you don't know the project or issuetype. Image Removed If you want to look for projects, you can do so as well. Image Removed |

title | Creating and editing Epics (Objects) |
---|
|
There are two ways to create epics:
- Epics can be created by clicking on the "Create" button.

- From a project's board backlog

Note: Make sure you select the correct project you want to create the epic in. Once you fill out all the required fields, it will bring you to the epic issue screen. In the demo below, I filled out fields that were also optional.

There are two ways you can create issues. - From the create button (similar to epic)
- From already created Epic

title | Moving or converting issues to another project |
---|
|
In case you created an issue in the wrong project, you can always move it to another project. There may be a case where you created a task, but really want it to be a bug. You can also use the same method to do so.

title | Creating and using Components |
---|
|
Components are useful to group and tag things in JIRA. Think of these as "tags". Components are project specific, so the options will only show up in the project they are created in (labels on the other hand are universal). There are two ways to create components: - Creating components from the components sidebar
- Creating components on the fly (note: At least 1 component must exist for this option to activate. If no components exist it will just say "None" and you must use option 1)

title | Creating and using FixVersion |
---|
|
Versions are useful to tie to milestones or product releases. You can put versions on things like Tasks or Epics and generate nice reports and filters. Similar to components, they are project specific (so you should make them descriptive). Similar to components, there are two ways to create versions. - Creating versions from the release sidebar
- Creating versions on the fly (note: At least 1 version must exist for this option to activate. If a version doesn't exist, it will just say "None" and you must create it via Option 1.

title | Requesting Project Creations |
---|
|
Note: This is a process, specific to UCSD ITS.
In order to request a new project, you must fill out a project record and create a project charter. Projects should have a start and end date. If you have questions about creating a project record, you can find more information.
To create a project record, you want to Click create and select ITS Portfolio as the project and then fill out the necessary information. The biggest difference between requesting a project vs a service operational project is defined on the project record. For projects, you select the "Work type" to be Discretionary and "Project type" to be Project.

Once you have mastered searching for issues, you may want to save it so you can use it in other places (tempo, Jira boards, widgets on the dashboard, confluence macros, subscriptions, etc). Just make sure you set the correct permissions so people can also use it. Image Removed |
