A project is a unique temporary endeavor, with a set beginning and end.  The Project Management framework can be thought of in five basic process groups typical of almost all projects. 

The five process groups are:

  1. Initiating
  2. Definition
  3. Execution (for software development projects, this phase is broken into the following phases:)
    1. Design
    2. Development
    3. Test
    4. Deployment
  4. Control
  5. Closeout
