How to import issues from CSV into JIRA

Steps for importing Tasks and/or Epics into ITS PRO

Prepare Data

  1. Prepare data for upload using Epic and Task Import List.xlsx

  2. Save all prepared data as .xlsx. or .csv file

  3. Create new seperate.csv file with subset of Epics or Tasks to try out upload

Try Upload Out

  1. Download Epic Task Import List config file

  2. Browse to Issue → Import Issues from CSV  (contact its-pro@ucsd.edu for permission if it doesn't appear in the dropdown )

  3. Specify .csv file and configuration file you want to use

  4. Call out project you want to import tasks and/or Epics to

  5. Since

  1. It is always a good idea to test with 1 or 2 issues before importing all of them.

  2. Always use Validate before Importing. If you see any errors, DO NOT import as your data will be imported incorrectly.

Known Issues:

  1. Object type on Epics doesn't properly import the second value

    1. For example if you entered "Document → Design Doc" under the Object Type column, only the "Document" will be imported. You will then need to go in and manually edit the Epic. If you are importing a lot of epics, you may reach out to an admin for help on the best way to do this.

  2. If you don't use the Sample.txt configuration file, you will need to modify the Date time format on the screen when you select the project (the screen after you select the csv file)

Tips on the spreadsheet

  1. Original estimate is in seconds.

  2. Epic Name applies to Epics only

    1. It also can be a copy and paste of Summary

  3. Epic Link applies to Tasks only

    1. It will be the Epic Name of the Epic
