Discussion items

Item

Item

Long term storage decision and philosophy?

Risk of undoing/redoing any of the current migration work with GWED, WFS in near term?

Who should be owner/driver of these decisions, and overall approach for storage (particularly research storage)?

  • Box was proposed and then not pursued due to cost

  • With google and MS pending storage limits and increasing costs, are we at risk of moving things to storage x and then needing to move it again in a few years?

    • WFS project has been proceeding for a few years, GWED project is also over a year

  • MS contract comes up for renewal in 5 years

    • Most likely going to be more expensive than what we have today

    • Align with google costing

  • Put a false limit on MS?

  • Student storage and net apps also a consideration

  • Challenge is that no single solution will meet the needs of research storage

  • Who owns research data and storage decisions? Stakeholders?

    • CMMC and security group

    • Library (D Minor)

    • Research IT

    • Office of innovation

One drive - who is over 5 tb; quantify risk

Decision: wait and see; given that 99% of users are below google limit, and many files are being deleted (not migrated to onedrive), no change to current approach or proposal of overarching storage strategy
