Q: Can I have direct SQL Access to the Activity Hubs?

A: All Activity Hub users can access Activity Hub data via Cognos, Tableau or data integration for their reporting and data integration needs.

Data Loads into Hana / Activity Hubs

Q: How often is the data refreshed to Hana Prod?

A: By default each activity hub is loaded with data from the source once a day, during the very early hours of the morning. This allows the data in the activity hub to be as of midnight on the day the report is run. The default can be modified to be less often or more often depending on the data source, the business need and the demand of all involved systems.

If there is an issue with a data load a notice will be posted to status.ucsd.edu.

Q: How often is the data refreshed to Hana QA?

A: By default Hana QA is refreshed with fresh data on a daily basis, after the data loads to Hana Production are complete. This may not be until mid-day. The data in Hana QA is to be used for testing new column groups, new views and enhancements.

Q: How often is the data refreshed to Hana DEV?

A: Hana DEV is where BIA does all their development. New data is loaded into Hana DEV as needed, per Activity Hub and sometimes per view.

Q: Where can I check the data load status?

A: You can check the data load status here: AH-Data Load Status Report

When you run this report select the Hana environment that you want to know about.

Lived and Legal Names

Q: Are lived names or legal names in the Activity Hubs?

A: All fields indicating Employee Name, Person Name, Student Name or related Name fields will always show the lived name (when available) and only display the legal name when the lived name is not available. Access to legal name will be decided by the specific data steward on a case-by-case basis.

Snapshots

Q: What is a snapshot?

A: A data snapshot is a copy of the data at a specific moment in time. Snapshots can be used to back up and restore data, or lock numbers in place.

Q: How do I replicate my old snapshots?

A: Activity Hub Views can be built with specific dates that allow you to create snapshots of any day of your choosing. This has already been done in a number of EAH views: How To Do Snapshot Reporting with AsOf Fields. SAH has Census views that make snapshots of Census dates available to users.
