5. Page Review Guidelines
Content Review
During your cadenced review of the pages for which you are responsible, please address the page content for the following:
What content has become stale, out-of-date, or in need of a refresh?
What content within or across these pages may be repetitive or redundant?
What content within or across these pages may be able to be condensed, summarized, or combined to improve understandability?
What content is largely campus-wide or system-wide information that may be linked to rather than reproduced?
If this is your first time reviewing or updating content, you may want to reference the “Content and Tool Guides” section of Resources for Web Managers for tips on writing, standards and best practices.
Audience Review
In addition to reviewing the content for staleness and simplicity, as you are reviewing your pages keep in mind the page audience. We will be tracking this information in order to help make informed decisions about website targeting and organization. Please update:
Who is the intended audience for this content?
Of the user and stakeholder groups for whom this content is intended, which group(s) are the primary audience?
Which group(s) are the secondary audience?
Selection options for the audience(s) are found on the Page Audience tab on the following Google Sheet:
For each page, please review and select the audiences that are intended to be served by the content. Make sure to scroll to the right to make the appropriate selection for each audience group being tracked; new groups may be added in the future.
A Primary audience is a group for whom the content is specifically tailored to and requires the information in order to successfully engage with BioSci.
A Secondary audience is a group who may have use of the content and may have minor difficulty engaging with BioSci were it unavailable.
Do not select anything or clear the selection if the content on a page is unlikely to be missed by an audience if it were removed from the website or relocated to another non-public-facing platform.
Additional Review Items
Please also review the following list of items on the pages for which you are responsible:
Outdated uses of Division or Section terminology. Please update these to School or Department as appropriate.
Links to other BioSci main website pages.
These links should target the _parent object to keep the user in the same browser tab/window.
If the link refers to a PDF hosted on the main website, verify that the PDF is current.
Links to non-BioSci main website pages. Verify that the linked page still contains the information we intend to reference. I.e., make sure it isn’t redirecting to a new and different resource.
Contact information for specific people should, if at all possible, be changed to a general contact.
Biology Website Champions documentation
Any page-specific notes relevant to maintenance or planned lifecycle. These are included in the automated report and can be updated in the Sheet in the “Notes/Comments” column.
Verify the review cycle is still appropriate for the content. This can be updated in the “Review Cycle” and “Cycle Offset” columns.
