Short Term Solution - Adding Data to Cognos or Tableau

Summary

  • What:

    • Upload data via Excel or CSV to Cognos server directly or Tableau server directly

  • Pros:

    • Can be used immediately

    • Can blend with Activity Hub views (may reduce speed of report)

    • Good solution for historical data or data that rarely changes

  • Cons:

    • Must be manually uploaded by report developer

    • Does note allow for data to be used by data integrations

Cognos Process

  1. Upload a CSV or Excel directly to Cognos. Instructions.

  2. Build your reports using the uploaded Excel.

  3. Notes:

    1. Your customers must have access to the uploaded Excel location along with your reports.

Tableau Process

  1. Upload a CSV or Excel directly to Tableau desktop. Instructions.

  2. Publish to Tableau server.

  3. Build your workbook using the data source published to Tableau server.

  4. Notes:

    1. You must have a Team Folders set up on Tableau server before you can publish to Tableau server. See Data Access > New Folders for details.

    2. Your customers must have access to the workbooks that includes the Excel data along with the dashboard.
