New Faculty Web Startup

New Faculty Web Startup

Information on creating faculty profiles for new faculty. Includes instructions on what is needed for faculty profiles, creating lab websites, and email templates to use when contacting the new faculty member.

Faculty Web Profile

Setup Process

  • New Faculty Members are able to set up their web profile once they've been added to the Faculty Research List.

  • A Faculty Member appears on this list once AP/HR and Fiscal have entered the necessary business information into information systems.

  • Once a New Faculty Member is added to this list, they’ll receive an email with instructions from the Web Office on how to complete their profile setup.

Timeline

Type

Process

Standard

  • The standard timeline is dependent on a combination of operational processes performed by AP/HR, Fiscal and IT and also the unique circumstances of each Faculty Member's appointment.

  • Typically, a Faculty Member appears on the Faculty Research List 2-3 weeks after their appointment start date if there are no inhibiting factors (work status, funding, conflicting appointments, etc.)

Early Listing

If a Faculty Member wishes to request a Web Profile earlier than the standard timeline, they should:

  1. Contact AP/HR to request early addition to the Faculty Research List

  2. Contact the Help Desk for systems access (specifically, the Biology applications)

Profile Information and Listing Requirements

  • Profile style and elements are illustrated in the Example Profile

  • More comprehensive notes on managing overall web presence and links can be found in the Web Content Guide (login required).

Lab websites

  • Lab website hosting can begin upon request and with the approval of the appropriate section chair or more senior.

  • Consider using the BioSci branded WordPress template for lab sites. More information about this can be found on the BioSci website’s Web Manager Resources page.

  • To request Lab Site web hosting, send an email to the Help Desk.

Business Unit Notes

  • As of May 2023, we've settled on the following workflow for adding new faculty to the website. This, in part, addresses the need to display faculty sooner than their official start date:
