Graduate Student Fellowship Exception Requests

Graduate Student Fellowship Exception Requests

Overview

It is against policy to issue financial support to a student that is not Academically Eligible. For example, if a student takes a Leave of Absence/Withdraws during the quarter, they become ineligible for financial support. However, the student’s academic home department may submit an exception request form on the student’s behalf to request that the student retain the financial support already received for that quarter. Please note, exception requests for financial support must be submitted through the Google Form (link on this page). They will not be accepted via ticket, email, or attachment on the LOA/WD portal on the student database.

Exceptions to the UC San Diego General Catalog pertaining to Graduate Admission and General Requirements for Higher Degrees - Fellowships and Traineeships include, but are not limited to:

  • Enrollment Limits

  • Standards of Scholarship

  • Continuous Registration

  • Financial - Tuition and Fees

  • Fellowships and Research Awards from Outside the University

Grad Maximum Support Limit

At its February 12, 2024 meeting, the Graduate Council reviewed the proposed updates to the Maximum Support Policy for graduate students. The Council supported the Division of Graduate Education and Postdoctoral Affairs’ recommendations to eliminate the policy that imposed a maximum limit on graduate support. This means that exception requests to exceed the graduate maximum support limit are no longer needed.

2 Step Process (Both are Required)

Exceptions are reviewed in the order they are received. Please allow 5-7 business days for review and approval of exceptions.
