What is the UCOP GL Simplification Project?

How will it impact financial reporting?

Related to Labor Ledger tables like those the DOPEs report is built on. Will be an impact to Payroll Projections.

Currently still in planning and information gathering stage. BIA is looking to see how to minimize the impact on report developers.

Who won’t Cognos let you add a view to a data module?

Scenario:

An existing data module with multiple views won’t let any more be added.

A new data module can be created with all the multiple views plus the new ones.

So this isn’t a limit on the number of views per data module.

A ticket with BIA will be opened.

Cognos data module troubleshooting

Query works in view alone but does not work when view is in the data module.

If you are not doing any joins in the data module then the report should only pull data from the single view you are using.

If you change a remove a view from a data module AFTER creating a report the data module will change the long address (the M number) which may cause errors.

You may need to rebuild your data module from scratch.

Some months will not have a FINAH enhancement release as all BIA resources are dedicated to preparing for TSS.

See demo with one row for Resources and multiple rows for Spend.

Example: [Total GL Resources] - total ([Total PPM Resources] for [Project Code], [Derived Fund Code])

Tell Cognos to total the multiple rows first before doing the subtraction.

What is it: One report that will (1) filter for information associated with the email and then (2) email that information only to that email.

Where can you do it? Cognos only

Does this work on interactive reports? Only if the prompts are pre-set and saved.

Will this send an empty report? No, that’s a benefit of the report.

Can you cc' other emails? No.

Schedules Best Practices

Only set up in Cognos Production

If the report has prompts, those prompts must have pre-saved values (set that up in a View or in the schedule area)

The schedule will run regardless of the contents of your report (so the report could be blank)

Send the link, not an attachment, this will preserve security

Whoever sets up the schedule will become the From: address

Recommend: set up a service account with an email address that goes to your entire team or creates a ticket for your team. Add that service account to your AD group. Sign into Cognos w/ the service account and schedule reports with the service account.
