Shola Richards Talks

 

  • Presentation provided by Shola Richards during the HDH Summer Appreciation Event

  • HDH provided headphones for their staff to use and had pre-set translators at the end

    • Shola Richards might have provided a script to translate

  • Key Note speaker focused on inclusive, setting boundaries, shared personal experiences about struggling with bullying in the workplace and his mission that no one had that same struggle

  • An HDH employee mentioned that this was the first time she had heard a presentation about EDI ever since she has been working with UCSD and she asked Shola Richards for advice about how her tone should not be taken as a negative

  • Suggestion: bringing a Spanish speaking keynote for next year

  • Shifting your energy when you get to work

  • Going through three levels of questions before you talk:

    • Is it true?

    • Is it kind?

    • Is it necessary?

  • Commitment means staying loyal about what you were going to do long after your emotions have changed

  • Focusing on the behavior and not the person - don’t take things personally, when you’re addressing equities in the workplace try to focus on the themes and not the person

  • Stopping by the JEDI Committee Meeting

  • The HDH concept about how everyone is a member of the JEDI program

    • Every member of IPPS is part of the EDI Committee

  • Call-out during huddle for the participation in the committee

  • Reach out to Amber about how they are managing their suggestion boxes

  • Potential key note speaker for the Holiday BFS Celebration
